Team Program Case Profile:
Maximizing High Leverage, High Impact Elite Performance
The American Law Journal is the weekly, prime time talk and feature program on the law airing Monday evenings on the Philadelphia CNN- affiliate WFMZ-TV. The program has been on the air for more than 25 years, and as its host and producers, we were looking to take the program to the next level in both content and quality. Our intention was to create a program allowing the viewers to have a compelling understanding of the power of the United States Constitution and the law on their daily life.
We had already achieved recognition in the form of being awarded three Emmys, but were at a crossroads of where to take the program next to generate even greater impact and leverage. Should we pursue national network or cable, and if so where would we secure the funding and financial support to make it all happen?
Working with Sandy Travis, the impact on our bottom line, time and productivity, morale and results has been a force for growth unlike anything we’ve experienced before in our 25 years in business.
As a result of working with Sandy we have:
- Saved both time and effort by learning how to streamline mindset and tasks for things that had in the past taken a week or longer- our latest Emmy entry preparation and documentation was days, not a week or weeks
- Worked smarter, not harder hitting our target metrics and benchmarks with greater ease and quality
- Incorporated access to being in the zone at will as a team through our new skills, tools and techniques
- Increased our problem solving ability and comfort in improvising effectively on the set while on the air and during TV production
- Shaped and restructured our thinking about change and how to harness it for company and personal growth and learned innovative ways to tackle new challenges
- Crafted a new communication style and processes for “group flow” where the team worked together in sync naturally and without the onerous and time consuming team building exercises others promote
- Co-created a new company culture of coherence for highly-tuned resiliency, collaboration, trust, camaraderie and productivity for getting more done in less time with greater success
- Performed courageously in times of challenge and the facing the unknown, with enhanced results
- Leveled the playing field so the different styles of work are more cohesive yet remain distinct and valued
- Retained valuable and valued employees, with enhanced job satisfaction
- Enhanced creativity, which is critical in our industry for peak performance. We have freed up many of the constraints that get in the way of a balanced and productive work environment such as long meetings, boredom, repetition, etc.
- Heightened innovation “A-ha’s” bubble up, are jump-started and acted on in our daily company conversation.
- Created a resilient and “take charge of the situation” attitude in the face of what previously were seen as overwhelming roadblocks
- Developed the team’s ability to be in sync via flow resulting in shorter, more productive and creative meetings and anticipated team needs before they are even expressed
- Learned how to balance work and life, in and out of the office making us even more excited to take on new challenges both personally and professionally
- Appreciated the power of “being in the moment” and mindfulness, with the result of more energy and calm while productively moving forward at peak efficiency
- Deepened our dedication to the corporate culture of success and balance while letting it be easy versus hard, difficult and draining
- Positioned ourselves to “do well in the playoffs” for professional recognition in our industry on a larger scale (more Emmys!)
- Welcomed adversity as a means to advance. Adversity has become more like play or a story to be produced, rather than a fearful encounter
- Radiated success so that others outside our team want to help, become clients, and be a part of the TV program
